I’m having a bit of a Billy Joel phase right now. I’ve been listening to his album “The Stranger” (1977) on repeat all evening. So much prime, relatable storytelling. I can’t help but dance around a bit when I listen to this album. Joel’s theme of “lighten the fuck up and have some fun” make me wish I lived the Cold War era. Solid messages, catchy dance tunes, what else do you really need in music?
Favorite quotes from the album:
“Working too hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack. … It seems such a waste of time, if that’s what it’s all about. Mama, if that’s moving out, I’m moving out.” - “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)”
“Well, we all fall in love, but we disregard the danger. Though we share so many secrets, there are some we never tell.”-“The Stranger”
Literally all of “Vienna.”
The Catholic-values-bashing of “Only The Good Die Young.”
Download this album, yo!
